Machicomoco

Say hello to Virginia's newest state park, dedicated only this past Friday by our governor, Ralph Northam. I had the pleasure of introducing myself to the state's newest acquisition yesterday as I went for a 5.3 mile hike through the place. Machicomoco, by the way, is an Algonquian word meaning "special meeting place" and is pronounced Mah-SHEE-coh-moh-coh, which certainly is a mouthful but--to my mind at least--is one of the most aptly named parks in the commonwealth. I'll have more to share about why over the next several days. For now, though, let me just leave you with the name.

  1. That a mouthful to pronounce. I am wondering what all the park has to offer.
